Two Spirited Women
Twin sisters, Amelia Suckling and Carla Temple are the life-blood of Spirited Women (est.2017). they look a bit the same, sound a bit the same and have a deep connection, appreciating the healing power women can give each other to live a better life.
They have spent much of their professional lives researching, developing and delivering educational programs, workshops and retreats across Australia and internationally. Their work supports women navigating change and life transitions, particularly during midlife and beyond. They encourage women to live meaningful lives with colour, confidence and vitality through creative and experiential learning
As art therapists, authors, educators and retreat leaders, they believe deeply in the transformative power of face-to-face group experiences, where creativity can open new pathways for reflection, healing and growth.
They facilitate a range of workshops and retreats for women, including Pause and Change, which supports women transitioning menopause; Art for Wellbeing retreats, focusing on contemporary issues affecting women; and The Art of Midlife and Beyond, an immersive retreat held in Bali.
Carla is trained in Transpersonal Art Therapy and is registered with the ACA and HTA. She has lectured at both Phoenix Institute and Ikon Institute and co-facilitates a 60-hour training program teaching the Expressive Therapies Continuum (developed by Lisa Lusbrink) through Art Psychotherapy Australia (ARTPA), alongside Dr Janine Brophy Dixon.
Amelia is formally trained in Creative Arts Therapy and is a registered practitioner with the Holistic Therapists Australia (HTA). In addition to her core training, she has undertaken specialised study in trauma-informed art therapy under the guidance of Cornelia Elbrecht, known for her work in body-based and somatic approaches to healing through art. This additional training has equipped Amelia with skills to support individuals in safely exploring and processing emotional experiences through creative expression within a trauma-sensitive framework.
Amelia and Carla love to work holistically, creating retreats that use a range of modalities, including art-making, storytelling, journaling, and meditation. Their work centres on creating a supportive and nurturing space where women can safely come together to reflect, heal and grow.
